Has anyone other than me ever heard Backwater by the Meatpuppets? Fairly simple song with interesting progressions, and solos are doable

You should email Andy Olson and throw a few songs at each other for the 3/14 jam....he seemed to be pretty versitble. I'll check out the Backwater shortly...Andy brought to the table, last chance for maryjane "Petty" and seemed to go well. Myself wouldnt mind giving Same thing "allman Brothers" a try. Mybe -just got payed today "zz top".

You may have noticed in my sig, but I'm a huge Zappa fan. Most of his songs are way out there, but I've always wanted to play 'something' by Frank. He's got a tune called Wonderful Wino that is really just a blues tune. I'm going to work on an arrangment mortals can play...maybe not this session, but its in the bucket list.

hallooo? i think it would be good idea to post a list for all Sunday 2 PM jammers as to what we had planned to play . not that its s firm must do list. and also keys. wonder what such a list could evolve into. am impressed at the growth in member list. gee whiz hadno idea

we had, a week ago, a floating list of 8-10 tunes. one that was played at the first jam a month ago, and maybe Tom, Joe and Brian will be the only ones who were there is Key to the Highway in A. wonderful rollicking blues. i recall it as best, tightest song of the night. it was not on that floating list. any a list review is suggested. hope we can try it

question: is this site the PLACE to go for news in case jam is cancelled at last minute by weather? makes sense. however this site did not like my user name ans password for multiple tries until i started salty language. i was doing it correctly too

altho, if you can imagine a stone age person placed into a jet plane and faced with levers and buttons, that is akin to yours truly with websites such as this. thanks. will be there sunday and.... IS THIS NOT THE DAYLIGHT SAVING CLOCK CHANGE WEEK END? i think so

Posthumously, Brian R

Hi guys,

I think the list ( Brian or Joe ) was talking about was one from the blues jam at the Hat Trick Lounge.
Some of us were going there until it kinda crapped out. I think Tom was singing Key to the Highway.
I know it too.

Given most of our skill levels, it's probably a good idea to keep the tunes pretty easy. I got a bunch I'd
like to take a stab at. I guess I could list them if ya want, or we could just wing them and see what everyone
is into. Zappa and the Meatpuppets huh? (shut up and play yer guitar vol. whatever, is a favorite of mine)
I just taught my son the words to don't you eat that yellow snow a couple days ago!

I'll learn the Meatpuppets and Zz Top tunes in case we jam together. What keys do you do them in?
I think Brian said blues tunes in E,G,and A are his favorite ones. Works for me, all I want to do is
learn how to play blues rhythm guitar!!

My first go at a song decode:

Wonderful Wino

(Sax Prelude)

<verse>
Gm-Am
L.A. in the summer of '69
I went downtown and bought me some wine
Cm-Dm
I wasted my head on a bottle of juice
Gm-Am
and now grape won't turn me loose.

<Chorus>
Dm
Well I'm a wino man,
E5 Gm
Don't you know I am? ah huh, ah huh
ah huh, ah uh

<Verse>
Gm-Am
36 - 24, hips about 30
I seen a fine lady And I started talkin' dirty
Cm-Dm
Boy, she looked over at me, And she raised her thumb
Gm-Am
She said: "Jam down the road You bum ba bum bum

<chorus>
Dm
I'm a wino man,
E5 Gm
Don't you know I am? ah huh, ah huh
ah huh, ah uh

<Interlude>
F#m
I went to the country,
C#m
And while I was gone
F#m
I lost control of my body functions
C#m
on a roller-headed lady's front lawn
C#m->Cm->Bm
I'm so ashamed,
But I'm a wino man
I can't help myself

<Out verses>
G-A
I've been drinkin' all night Till my eyes got red
Stumbled on the gutter And busted my head
Bugs in my zoot suit,
Been scratchin' like a dog
I can't stand no water,
And I stink like a hog

Give me a five dollar bill,
And an overcoat too
Give me a five dollar bill,
And an overcoat too
A five dollar bill and an overcoat too
A five dollar bill and a Florsheim shoe

Hey, I finally made it on. Sorry it took so long. My suggestions for songs for 3/14/13 would be to go over what we've done before and add one or two songs. Brad, you're much more adept at this than I am, so how about if I email you the list and links that were sent out for the 3/5/12 jam and you put them up on the forum? Otherwise, you might be well into retirement before I get them all posted. The only addition I'd make to the list that I'll send you in a few minutes would be Key to the Highway in A.

It's late, I'm off to send that email with links, I'll check in later.

The forum looks sweet, Brad. I'll get the hang of it eventually.

Oh, since you were talking Zappa...one of my favorites from The Mothers of Invention--We're Only In It For The Money (the Sargeant Peppers spoof album) Home Coming Queen

Lyrics - Strange Brew
Strange brew -- killin' what's inside of you.
She's a witch of trouble in electric blue.
In her own mad mind she's in love with you,
With you.
Now what you gonna do?
Strange brew -- killin' what's inside of you.
She's some kind of demon messin' in the flue.
If you don't watch out it'll stick to you,
To you.
What kind of fool are you?
Strange brew -- killin' what's inside of you.
On a boat in the middle of a raging sea,
She would make a scene for it all to be
Ignored.
And wouldn't you be bored?
Strange brew -- killin' what's inside of you.
Strange brew, strange brew, strange brew, strange brew.
Strange brew -- killin' what's inside of you.

Lead Guitar chart for Dead flowers -
Lyrics - Dead Flowers
Well, when you're sitting there
In your silk upholstered chair
Talking to some rich folks that you know
Well I hope you won't see me
In my ragged company
You know I could never be alone

Take me down little Susie, take me down
I know you think you're the Queen of the Underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flower by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
And I won't forget to put roses on your grave

Well, you're sitting back
In your rose pink Cadillac
Making bets on Kentucky Derby Day
I'll be in my basement room
With a needle and a spoon
And another girl can take my pain away

Take me down little Susie, take me down
I know you think you're the Queen of the Underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flower by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
And I won't forget to put roses on your grave

Take me down little Susie, take me down
I know you think you're the Queen of the Underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flower by the US mail
Say it with dead flowers at my wedding
And I won't forget to put roses on your grave
No I won't forget to put roses on your grave
